Voices in Stone

Voices in Stone records artists singing in a circle of prayer inside ancient synagogues, then shares the videos so people in Israel and the United States know these places exist.

These synagogues are still here

Our goal is to raise awareness, among people in Israel and in the USA, that these ancient synagogues exist. There are more than 130 of them, some 2,000 years old.

We do it by recording artists singing in a circle of prayer inside these sites, to bring back the feeling of what it was like there 2,000 years ago, and then sharing the videos on social media.

For about $40,000, the first episode can reach half a million people. We are asking you to help us make it happen.

The first episode

Most of these synagogues are in the Galilee, the Golan, and Judea. Many stand in national parks and nature reserves cared for by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority. The first episode is filmed in a synagogue in the Galilee, chosen with the Authority. The same idea can then go to other synagogues.

A gift pays for filming and recording inside the building, the artists, and sharing the video. The gift is to American Friends of INHF Inc. Our board reviews it and decides the grant. We are separate from the Authority. The episode is carried out in Israel with the Authority.

  • $100 — a share of the first episode. Gifts of this size are pooled until the $40,000 episode is covered.
  • $1,000 — a larger share of that episode.
  • $10,000 — a quarter of the first episode.
  • $40,000 — the first episode, the one that can reach half a million people.
